Are you the type that is all words no action? Time to get over it. If you don’t take charge of sales and marketing and social media in your business your marketing team will (if you even have one). But how can they understand all the limitations and constraints you have? Will they know your vision if they have never seen it implemented by you first. Take the time to build your skills or accumulate experiences that will help you be the guide. One day at a time is just fine..but not moving towards your goals is not okay. Use the tools available to you: webinars, search engines, blogs, self-help books, youtube videos. Ask for help, everyone wants to share their success stories. Mirror what’s working for others. There is no shame in being a bit of a copy cat, just make sure in the end you own what you are doing.

You think you have done it all. Don’t quit! Be curious and open to new ideas. Despite the success you may be having, your social and marketing quotient may already be depreciating—and you’re falling behind and don’t even know it. Have you checked out your competitor’s sites lately? What are they up to? Are you reading the trades? Are you getting daily emails with keyword info to see what is going on in the market? What are new models being deployed by other verticals? What about a contest? Survey? Crowd Sourcing? What about creating a linked in-group or meet up group. What about getting out of the office and taking a class? There is always something new to do and learn.

You can’t have all of the prestige without putting in the work. There are tons of unglamorous tasks to take care of in your business, and if you don’t volunteer for any of them who else will. Even if you hate it, follow through. Soon, you’ll learn that this marketing work—creates daily wins and successes—your credibility will grow and your bottom-line too. There are no shortcuts. If you want your pipeline filled, you have to be ready to create content, drive traffic and be in the conversation every day.

Use your imagination. Think big, visualize your possibilities in new and unexpected ways. Take an inventory of your talents and how they could transfer to other parts of your business. Discover someone inside or outside your company to be your co-pilot. Find your marketing calling, its never too late, you just might love it. Find your favorite soapbox and start to gather ammunition. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Copy, paste ideas from other sites, sign up for other people’s blogs, newsletters and email campaigns. Build an inventory of ideas you can show people to get your ideas across. Set up a weekly meeting to share and exchange tear sheets. Create a vision board and add to it each day. Make sure everyone knows what you want to say and do. The Universe will support you if you spread your vision.

If you are hoping the future will take care of itself, think again. You must set goals and take those daily steps to prepare and break through the crowds. Of course you are so busy with a million different things, but if marketing, sales and communication is not your special skill set your organization will flap in the wind. Don’t waste time, get someone in there to help you plan. With a plan you can move forward. Today we all need to be great at design and marketing to convey our brands. We also need to be great at multi-tasking all the elements of marketing including campaigns, ads, social media, blogging, trade shows, web site enhancements, video interviews, webinars and more… if you can’t do it in house then hire an outsourced team. It’s all in the planning!

Every day you should be moving the marketing and sales needle. You need to be implementing the strategies you dream of each night for your website, social media, sales and marketing. Start with setting up your marketing plan, social media plan and sales plan, these three all tie together. Put it all in one calendar. Start with the next 30 days of campaigns and tasks, but 90 days is even better. Each day implement the steps you need to get to 100% of your plan. Need a budget? Nail it down, you can do a lot with a little if “you” own this project. Too busy and need a team or project manager? Find someone inside your company who wants to do this so bad or find interns but stay involved as a coach. Need to update your website before you can even get started, don’t wait, find a great web design agency or hire a freelancer that has proven credentials and project manage them to pieces.

WYSWYG provides innovative strategic marketing, consulting and creative solutions to startups and Fortune 500 companies. Gelato Giuliana a gelato retail start up located on Church Street in Downtown Montclair New Jersey needed to develop their brand and website to support their first store opening.

“Gelato Giuliana NJ offers premium gelato, an espresso bar and pastries and chocolates”, said Patricia Martin, Creative director of WYSWYG. “Downtown Montclair is like New York City, with a savvy and sophisticated clientele. The management of the company is made up of an experienced real estate and restaurant development team. The gelateria is the first store to open, but additional stores are planned. The challenge of the brand lied in leveraging the Gelato Giuliana brand, the actual makers of the gelato, while developing the Gelato Giuliana NJ brand side by side. The New Jersey location needed to become part of the brand family but have its own unique identity.”

“The site’s design and colors evoke a chic Italian taste level mirrored through the store’s custom interior, use of reflective surfaces and Italian design”, said Laura McCann- Ramsey, WYSWYG’s Client Manager. “From the music playing on the site with an Italian melody, to the use of a fabulous designer wallpaper background, gelateriagiuliananj.com provokes the tastebuds. Fans of the brand will be able to buy gelato online and ship it to their friends and family through an ecommerce-shopping cart. Gelato lovers can check out all the products offered, send a survey about the store’s performance and sign up for social media marketing to win loyalty cards and discounts.”
